21st Annual

Tewksbury Physical Therapy

Run Your Turkey Off

Road Race

Background Information

The 21st annual pre-Thanksgiving Tewksbury Physical Therapy "Run Your Turkey Off" 1K (8:00am), 5K (8:30am ) and 15K (9:30am) Road Race is scheduled for Sunday November 11th at Tewksbury High School.

The main attraction of the road race is that top finishers each win turkeys that are donated by Demoulas and Shady Brook Farms, in plenty of time for the holiday. Consistently named one of the top races of New England by New England Runner, the event attracted over 1000 participants last year. "This year we hope to attract just as many runners with our prizes, good course, plentiful refreshments, and of course challenging competition." Adds sponsor Lou Coiro, owner of Tewksbury Physical Therapy, "We added the 5K (3.1 miles) and Kid's 1K (.6 mile) events a few years ago, to give more people the chance to run.

Two returning participants will be Dick and Rick Hoyt. Famous for their many Boston Marathons, Dick Hoyt pushes a special wheelchair with his son Rick who has Cerebral Palsy. "Rick told me that he likes to win the turkey" says former Race Director, Dave Tyler, "I don't know how he puts up with the bumps and cold wind along the way, he really is impressive... they both are!"

There will be free pre and post race sports massages for all participants! Refreshments include bagels, cookies and hot soup. The race is hosted by the "Greater Lowell Road Runners" Club and sponsored by Tewksbury Physical Therapy. It is a charity event to raise funds for both the Tewksbury Community

Pantry and the Open Pantry of Greater Lowell, during Lowell's Hunger & Homeless Week.
