Jeff Crahalla of Wilkes-Barre Twp completed the four mile course in 22:05.
Crahalla was the second place finisher last year. Kempton's Matthew Fritz
was second in 23:25 and Troy Rutter of Orefield was third with a time of 24:16
On the women's side, Kim Gasper of Hazleton , completed the event in 26:41,
eleventh overall. 1995 winner Alyssa Fabian of Lehighton was second in
30:02. Jackie Shokey of Coaldale was third with a time of 30:09
In the walk division, Ruby Tolbert of Wilkes-Barre shattered the existing
women's course record by over seven minutes finishing with a time of 42:17.
Larry Freeman, of Newport, PA was the first male walker finishing with a
time of 46:28.
This year's record number of participants was started by the honorable mayor
of Lehighton, Wilbur "Cap" Bauchspies. The scenic and challenging course
started and finished at the PA National Guard Armory.
The event was presented by Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Carbon County and
sponsored by local businesses including: Blue Mountain Sports, The Finish
Line Running Store, Runner's World, Lehighton Area Education Assoc., PA
National Guard, Pizza Como U.S.A., Nor-Car Federal Credit Union, Dr. Clark
Hawk, Soundcheck Records, Sneer Decker Real Estate, Snyder Tire Co.,and
Mountain Top Silk Screening.
All proceeds will benefit the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program of Carbon County.
