OVERVIEW . . . 1st Annual TEMPLE UNIVERSITY OWLS NIGHT FLIGHT 5K & 1 Mile Run-Walk, at Boat House Row on Kelly Drive, Philadelphia, PA.  Ah, the weather . . . could have been much better, but then a break in the huge rain front was most fortunate.  Temperatures dropped to about 45-48 degrees, with a constant drizzle . . .  which was a let-up from the earlier heavy rain during the day.  This was a new certified 5K course which started & finished at Lloyd Hall on Kelly Drive.  There was a $500 male & female time bonus up for grabs for the first runner to break the PA 5K record.  But with wet pavements and cold, damp weather --  that flew out the window, and put away for next year's event.  Not to be deterred in any manner was Mark Gyandoh, 24, from Ardmore, PA with a 16:04, kicking in a big finish over a fast closing Bill Gould, 30, Phila., PA who finished in 16:12.   First female overall, Pam Gess, 30, from Somerdale, NJ took first in 19:43 over second place finisher Gina Martinelli, 27, from Stratford, NJ finishing in 20:08. Third overall male in 17:09, was Jim Alexander, 40 years old, Warminster, PA and third overall female was Jennifer Dimascio, 27 years old, from East Norriston, PA in 20:18.   Beautiful, fine jewelry watches were awarded to first male & female overall, with Temple University award sweatshirts for all age group winners.  About 5 minutes after the awards ceremony, the sky opened up and the rain came down in sheets.  Could have been much better on race day but during the race itself, everyone got a little lucky.   Thanks to all the Temple volunteers, a high-five right back at the Temple Owls mascot who was at the finishline high-fiving all finishers.  In spite of the weather there were still 276 entrants with 202 finishers on a wet and soggy day on the Delaware.   This race will grow -- good amenities, good organization -- well done to all Owls Night Flight finishers . . .  next year everyone deserves better weather.
