Falmouth High Cross Country Team Looks Good at QD 5

The field for Friday's QD 5 was back up to 69 runners. Among them were a large contingent from the Falmouth boy's cross country team. Based on Friday's results, it should be a good year for Pete Sampson's squad. Erik Ross was the first Falmouth High Harrier to cross the line, running 31:21, his best QD 5 time ever and good enough for 6th place overall. Eric Critzer ran 32:16, finishing a few strides behind the coach. Also finishing under 35 minutes were Colin Rowan, Peter Tavilla, and Joe McMenamy.

Bill Solimine was the overall winner with a time of 26:54 which easily out distanced Ken Gartner by 2 minutes. Unfortunately the 39 year old winner will not be eligible for Pete Sampson's team. Finishing 3rd was the new Quarterdeck bartender, Jeff Fumarola. Fumarola's time of 29:24 easily broke Brent Hawkins' QD bartenders course record. He will be teaming up with Tommy Leonard behind the bar for the winter.

Heather Pola won the woman's race in 31:55. She finally recovered from a frustrating back injury and bounced back into shape very quickly. Karin Lebherz Smith and Mary Olenick followed in 2nd and 3rd.

The QD 5 Miler is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square. There is no charge for this self timed event.
