QD 5 Runners Enjoy The Rain

Perhaps Tommy Leonard best summed it up Friday night as the rain soaked runners dashed into the dry Quarterdeck when he exclaimed, "Only the diehards were out tonight." There were 23 "diehards," and all agreed the rain was a welcome change from the oppressive humidity they were forced to train in all week.

Ken Gartner and Jeff "Wrong-Way" Fumarola ran together and were the first two to splash across the finish line. Luc Claessens was just barely able to hold off a hard charging Michele Bianchini for 3rd. Jerry Donovan ran 34:24 and cracked the top 5 for the first time since last year.

Nancy Correia returned after a long QD 5 absence to finish first for the women. Laura Caille and Kris Tholke followed closely behind. Elizabeth Jazowski edged Marcia Duggan for 4th. For Duggan it was her first top 5 finish.

The QD 5 Milers are held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for this self-timed event and all runners are invited to participate.
