O'Mara and Correia Smoke Record Field in 100th QD 5

It was another beautiful night to run, and 58 runners, the biggest field of the year, turned out to test themselves on the scenic QD course. Bill O'Mara from North Dartmouth and Nancy Correia from East Falmouth each ran away from the their respective fields to win by 3 minuite margins in 27:58 and 33:39 respectively.

In the men's race, it was a real scramble for the next four spots. The race had an international flavor as well, as two of the top five finishers came from across the Atlantic. Luc Claessens, who hails from the Netherlands and is working in Woods Hole, set a PR en route to capturing 2nd place. He was followed by QD regular, Jeff List, Michelle Bianchini from Venice, Italy and who also lives part time in Woods Hole, and North Falmouth's Brian Nelson.

After Nancy Correia, the top women all finished within 46 seconds of each other. Ellen Mecray and Jessica Baker, both of Falmouth, tied for 2nd in 37:54 and were followed in short order by West Falmouth's Kris Tholke and Mary Olenick of North Falmouth.

The large field for the 100th running elicited several "Holy Cow's" from famed Quarterdeck bartender and QD 5 host, Tommy Leonard, and the good weather resulted in 5 runners setting "PRs."

The Quarterdeck Five is held on a measured and scenic five mile course every Friday Night at 5:30, rain, shine, snow, etc. in Town Hall Square in Falmouth. The race is free. Runners time themselves and record their times in the Quarterdeck afterwards. All runners are welcome.
