Personal Best Times Prevail at QD 5 Miler
It was another season high turnout for Friday's QD 5 Miler. This week 57 runners enjoyed a beautiful 60 degree night. As they turned onto Surf Drive after the three mile mark the strong headwind that they had been battling for the past month had magically disappeared. Instead they enjoyed a strong southwest tail-wind that propelled at least 10 runners home to personal best 5 mile times.
Heather Pola paced the woman's field with a time of 31:31, which was just off her personal best time set two years ago when she dominated the QD 5 races. Following in second was Ellen Gutermuth with a personal best time of 35:13, which was a phenomenal 5 minute improvement over her time of last week. Third place finisher Jessica Baker also chalked up a personal best time, as she broke 36 minutes for the first time.
Charlie Stock returned from his long winter lay-off and chased Ken Gartner across the line to take second place with a time of 29 minutes. Justin Neviackas followed in third, and Jeff List took fourth with a personal best time of 30:22. Sixteen-year-old Chris George of Needham had a very good run, as he took eighth place with a personal best time of 31:27.
Joining the personal best time parade were: Jerry Donovan, the marine from East Falmouth, David Mutti, the Village Cafe chef, Judi "PR" Keller, and Susan Jolie who knocked 2 minutes off her previous best time.
The QD 5 Miler is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for the run and all runners are invited to attend.
