103rd QD 5 - Stock and Gartner Tie; Lim Wins Women's Race

Some of the QD 5 regulars rested on the sidelines this week, conserving their energy for either the Chatham Road Race or the Craigville Triathalon, which were both held on Saturday. The 42 runners who did turn out found it was not a day for personal records, as once again they had to battle the pesky south-east headwind on Surf Drive which produced dismally slow 4th mile times.

Charlie Stock and Ken Gartner paced the field, as the two ran together to finish with a time of 28:33. They were followed by Ulandt Kim, Jeff List and Michelle Bianchini.

In the women's race, Pauline Lim had a much tougher time of it, as it required a personal best time of 37:33 to edge Karen Lebherz Smith by only 7 seconds. Ms. Smith who just moved back to Falmouth from Florida, should have no problem adapting to the summer heat. Jessica Baker finished in a tie for 3rd with her friend, Aime Glazer from San Jose California. Ms. Baker who rarely finishes the QD 5 alone, has now tied with at least 10 different runners.

Andrew Roth, last weeks fastest QD waiter, opted to run around the Quarterdeck serving tables this week. Rumor has it that Mr. Roth is being personally coached by his co-worker, the infamous running guru...Tommy Leonard.

The QD 5 Miler is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for this self-timed event.
