Beautiful Weather Brings Good Turnout for 97th QD 5

Pola Best's Correia in Women's Race

Friday night's beautiful weather brought 45 runners to the QD 5 Miler. Most were running along right on pace, until they turned the corner at 3 miles and encountered a strong north-east headwind.

Jeff List powered home in second place with a time of 31:57, a couple of minutes behind Ken Gartner. Smiling Luc Claessens, the soccer player from the Netherlands, trailed List by only a few seconds to take third place. Mr. Claessens chopped a whopping 5 minutes off of last week's time. Pete Sampson, the Falmouth High track coach, took fourth. Dave Mcpherson found his legs finally recovered from the Boston Marathon, as he rounded out the top five.

Heather Pola ran her best QD 5 time in over a year to take the woman's race. Her time of 32:45 edged Nancy Correia by only a minute. Ellen Mecray and Jessica Baker, also found their legs recovered from the Boston Marathon, as they tied for third.

Judi Keller somehow plowed through the strong headwind on Surf Drive en-route to another personal best time of 43:01. Dave Mutti also had his best time as he inched closer to his personal goal of 40 minutes. Sid Toabe, the "ageless wonder" ran and amazing time of 43 minutes at the age of 75. Susan Jolie's hard work in the Falmouth Track Club's Wednesday night track workouts is paying off, as she ran her best time of the year.

The QD 5 miler is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square. There is no charge and all runners are invited to participate.
