Numbers Grow in Weekly Quarterdeck Five

The warm night along with the Easter weekend produced another large QD 5 field, as 52 runners took part. Duncan Smith-Rohrberg, Ulandt Kim , and Ken Gartner ran together most of the way, and all three runners broke the 30 minute barrier. Jay Austin, a former QD 5 regular who now trains on hilly trails in Oregon, nabbed 4th place in his homecoming. The Frame family showed up in force this week. Leading the way was Anne Frame of Cambridge who scorched the course with a time of 32 minutes, a full 2 minutes ahead of Nancy Corriea. Jessica Baker followed in 3rd and Maura Bennett, Anne's sister, took 4th in her QD 5 debut. Gwyneth Packard of Pocasset decided to give the QD 5 a try despite the fact that she had never run over 3 miles before. She recruited her friend Paula Frantantini, a veteran runner, to be her pace setter and the two woman set out at 10 minute per mile pace. Running side by side with perfect form they hit 3 miles and never slowed. They bounded into Town Hall Square with a time of just over 50 minutes. It was obviously a personal best for Ms. Packard. The QD 5 Miler is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. there is no charge for this self-timed event and all runners are invited to take part.
