Runners Use QD 5 To Warm Up to Marathon

Thirty-Six runners braved the chilly Friday 45 degree night to run the QD 5. For the six Boston Marathon entrants: Bill O'Mara, Tim Jones, Derek Fong, John Evans, Ellen Mecray, and Paula Frantontini it was a slow paced "social outing". Mr. Fong journeyed all the way from his home in Palo Alto California to combine the QD 5 and Boston Marathon into one giant "race weekend". Absent from his job as QD 5 "greeter" was running guru Tommy Leonard, who had a much bigger job awaiting him up on Boylston Street in Boston as the "Official Greeter" of the Boston Marathon.

After a long absence from competitive running, Falmouth Track Club President Bob Crowley made a rare public racing appearance. He immediately put an end to any rumors indicating he was washed up and out of shape, as he dashed across the line in a very respectable time of just over 32 minutes, good enough for 4th place. Jeff List nabbed 2nd place while Chris Reddy had one of his best QD 5 runs ever to take 5th place in 33:33. Darlene O'Mara led the women's field, besting Lisa Lamont by only 30 seconds. For Ms. Lamont it was her best QD 5 time, run under sub-optimal conditions. Rhonda Gendron rounded out the top 3.

The Village Cafe was well represented as David Mutti and Kevin Springer donned their running shoes and trekked across the street and gave it a go. Mr. Springer proved to be the faster Village Cafe employee, as he edged out his co-worker by a couple of minutes.

The QD 5 Miler is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge and all runners are invited to join in.
