2nd Annual Mutt Strutt
April 26, 1998 Waterbury, VT
For the second year in a row we had great weather
for the Mutt Strutt. There was a bit of a headwind
on the
home stretch, here it helped to have a larger dog to draft
behind. Joe McNamara and Dillon had the fastest
time of the day and a new record for the 3-mile
course in 16:59.
An exciting finish in the women's
race saw
Dot Martin and Kona squeak by Caitlin Compton and Clover
in an all-out sprint to the finish to win in 19:51.
Caitlin and Clover were second in 19:54 but
retain the course record for women (19:20).
Last year's men's
winner Tim Noonan and Gus finished in the middle of a 4-way
contest for second place. This year we had
several younger contestants. Ruth Lazenby (Belle)
and Chelsea Welsh (T.C.) were the youngest at 9 years old.

Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation kindly
waived the
permit fee for use of the park. Because of
the generosity of these parties, most of the race
entry fees went
directly to support the Central Vermont Humane Society.
