Williamsburg Jaycees 5.3M Run for Life

A Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix Event

Newport News, VA

June 20, 1998

Results courtesy of Rick Platt, Run Fast Promotions (757-229-7375).
This race was the first for Tom Jeffrey since running a 2:25:36 at the May 3rd Pittsburgh Marathon (an attempt at the Olympic Trials qualifying time). He was on the Peninsula for a Sunday afternoon wedding. A former James Madison University runner, Jeffrey will return to that school this fall as a graduate assistant coach. At JMU, Jeffrey had PR's of 9:02 (steeplechase), 14:32 (5000m) and 30:24 (10,000m). On the roads, he's done a 1:07:58 (5th, '97 Hampton Coliseum Half Marathon) and 2:23:24 ('6th, 97 Detroit Marathon). This week was notable for another reason, as Jeffrey became engaged to Melissa Freda on Tuesday, another distance runner for JMU.

Course: flat, dirt bikeway (asphalt for first 2/3 mile); weather: very warm, humid, upper 70's, sunny.
