Naughton and Tholke Triumph in Balmy Breezes at 76th QD 5

Mike Naughton of Orleans and Kris Tholke of West Falmouth won the men's and women's divisions respectively in the 76th running of the Quarterdeck Five. 31 runners toed the line under clear and moonlit skies. The temperature stood at 59 degrees. Even though it was December 4th, the Christmas lights on Main Street were the only reminders of the season. The balmy weather was reminiscent of late spring, and many runners were dressed in shorts and t-shirts.

When the runners took off, Naughton grabbed the lead and held off the rest of the field to win with a time of 31:00. Jim Leichter of Falmouth and Jeff List of East Falmouth took 2nd and 3rd, 25 and 35 seconds later. The top five was rounded out by Mashpee's Matthew Theodore and Falmouth's Dana K. Smith.

Despite taking time out to help Ed Giordano put himself back together after his spill on Beebe Acres Road, Kris Tholke and Mary Olenick made up for lost time and finished 1-2 with times of 38:42 and 39:01. They were follows by Falmouth's Heather Klimm and Maryann Rowan who tied for 3rd. Elizabeth Jazowski, also of Falmouth, came in 5th.

The QD 5 Milers are held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge and all runners are invited to run. Runners are encouraged to wear reflective running gear through the winter.
