Nancy Correia wins QD 5 for Fifth Time in Six Tries

Forty-one runners competed in the 49th Quarterdeck Five miler on Friday, May 29. Nancy Correia of East Falmouth continued her remarkable record for the QD5 by winning her fifth title in six attempts. She broke the thirty-four minute barrier for the first time, knocking five seconds off her personal best. Sarah Correia, a QD 5 regular from last summer, claimed the second spot with a time of 37:22. Jessica Baker, running her first QD5 since injuring her knee several weeks ago, finished third.

In the men's race, Marcus Hullum went out strong in his QD 5 debut but tired in the homestretch where he was overtaken by Tor Clark. Clark broke 30 minutes to take second with Hullum hanging on for 3rd. Charles Legg and Fred Keller rounded out the top five for the men's field.

A solid performance was turned in by Dave Ford who ran his first QD5, finishing in just under forty minutes. The SEA Development Officer turned it on in the final quarter mile to cross the finish line with the the fleet-footed WHOI tandem of Steve Jayne and Paula Fratantoni. Sarah Young turned in another fine performance, knocking another minute off her personal best.

The QD 5 Milers are held every Friday night at 5:30, beginning at the Town Hall Square in Falmouth. The course is accurately measured, relatively traffic free, and scenic. All turns and miles on the course are marked. The run is free and self-timed. After the run, runners record their times in the Quarterdeck. ******************************************************************************
