Kaiser Permanente Amherst Arts Classic 10K
AMHERST, MA, October 17&emdash;Brothers Ethan Nedeau of Old Town, ME, and Erik
Nedeau of Amherst finished one-two at the 7th Annual Kaiser Permanente
Amherst Arts Classic 10K Road Race Saturday, October 17. Ethan Nedeau,
25, won the race in a time of 32:13, the second fastest time ever on the
course behind Fran Ireland's 1994 course record of 31:50. Erik Nedeau,
27, finished second in a time of 33:03. Last year's winner, Richard
Larsen of Shelburne, finished third in a time of 35:08.
Twenty-five-year-old Sarah Hann of Amherst set a new women's record by
more than a minute, smashing Sidney Letendre's four-year-old mark of
37:46 with a time of 36:41, good for eighth place over all. Last year's
winner, Natalie Blanchard of Amherst, finished third among women, 14th
over all, with a time of 38:55.
The race, a fundraiser for the arts, attracted more than 140 entrants,
and 133 runners finished the course. The weather was clear and
temperatures were in the low 50s for the 9:30 a.m. start. State
Representative Ellen Story of Amherst presented awards to the top men
and women finishers in six age categories.
