Andover, MA - What better way to spend your lunch hour than to run a 5K on the picturesque Merrimack River Trail? Fifty-four runners couldn't resist an opportunity for a trail run as they participated in the first BreakTime 5K Trail Run. The race was organized to raise money to build a bridge to connect the east trail to the west trail that leads to the Lawrence Heritage Riverside Park.
It was fitting that the Chelmsford's Stephen Peterson, who has raised thousands of dollars for trail improvements, won the inaugural event. Over the last six years, Peterson has directed the Merrimack River Trial Run. This event annually draws several hundred runners with all proceeds going to improving this hidden treasure.

The men's race was a battle between Peterson and Steve Neale both from Chelmsford, MA. Peterson was able to hold off his neighbor by a mere 13 seconds to win.
The women's race was not as close. Auburn, NH resident Vickie Kalil outdistanced Andover's Colleen Lashway for the win.
The masters division went to Rye's Bob Weathersby and Hampton's Carol Zanni. Dunstable resident Warren Church captured the seniors division.
The race also included a team division. Several teams from the booming River Road area competed. Lucent Technologies led Hewlett Packard for team honors.
