New Men's Course Record!!
Just when things might get a little boring in the middle of a 12 week race series, leave it to race
director Paul Poisson to throw something different at the runners.
This week's race was a chase
race. Everyone who had run the race at least twice this summer was grouped by their average
time. Small groups left at 30 second intervals, with the fastest people starting in the later groups.
In theory, if everyone ran their average time, everyone would finish at approximately the same
time. As it was, there were only 13:12 separating all 80 runners. Steve Neale came in first.
However, he had not run the required 2 races, so could not be accurately seeded in the chase race.
Chris Antunes (17 and Under) was second overall and the first official chase racer to finish. His
overall time was 33:57. His elapsed time was 21:57. Deidre Cullen (Female 17 and Under) was
the second chaser to finish, in a time of 34:44 overall and 33:14 elapsed.
Eric Beauchesne of Chelmsford set a new Men's course record with a clocking of 17:42. Starting 17:00 behind the first group of runners, Eric
managed to place 29th overall. It was quite impressive for us back-of-the-packers to see someone
go flying by at sub-5:00 pace. He passed us like we were standing still.
In the Female 50 and Over category, Ann Sartorelli cut 22 seconds off of the category's season
best (also held by her).
