This week saw a smaller than usual field due to the July 4th holiday. There
were a total of 57 runners. The 17 and Under males and females combined for
23 runners. There were no runners in the Female 18-29, 30-39 or 50 and Over
categories.
Twenty-five season's bests were set. Marge Gladwin took over the lead in the
Female 40-49 category, moving up from third after last week's race. George
Caldwell took over the lead in the Walking category. Frank Clapp extended his
lead to 10 points in the Male 40-49 group.
This was team competition week. Teams were determined by drawing three names
at random before the start of the race. The results for the team competition
should be ready by next week. Sorry for the delay.
The course has been changed slightly due to renovations taking place on to the
Westford Academy track. The start and finish were moved out into the parking
lot. To make up for the lost 200 yards, the end of the race was modified to
go around the front of the high school. Speculation ran wild after the race
as to whether the course was slightly longer or shorter. Race director Paul
Poisson said he would remeasure the course for next week's race.
