Weather: Seven inches of snow fell in the area on the day before Stu's 30K. At 6:00AM on race day, five hours prior to the start, a snow squall accompanied by thunder and lightning added another inch of snow in a ten minute period. Several snow squalls buffeted the starting area in the last two hours before the race. Halfway through the race, a blizzard-like squall caused near white-out conditions for over an hour. Finally, as the last of the 986 finishers staggered to the finish line, the winds picked up to gale force and the temperature plummeted from the mid-30's to the mid-20's. Few races in the annals of New England road racing history can match in adversity the conditions at this year's Stu's 30K, a race already legendary for its mountainous terrain.
