CMS 1996 52-Week 5K #52

This was the race that wasn't supposed to be. The host facility, Worcester State College, was closed down completely during the week between Christmas and New Year's Day and, if the CMS Members Only 5K held back in June were counted as being part of the CMS 52-Week 5K Series, then a race on December 28th would be #53. Therefore, the CMS "powers-that-be" declared that no race would be run on the 28th. However, they failed to take into account the influence of CMS member Linda Usher of Upton who declared that there would be a race, with or without the official blessing of CMS.

At any rate, whenever and wherever she could, Linda announced that she would be present on the 28th with refreshments and would make certain that results were taken. Consequently, fifteen runners along with two volunteers materialized for the race and two others showed up after the race, but in time for the refreshments.
