This account of the conditions at the Scott Bailey Race was provided to CR by Bill Ferrara of Milford, Massachusetts.
Some 10" to 11" of snow fell on Framingham the day/evening before the race. However, the day-of-race conditions were quite decent with bright sunshine, temperatures in the 30's and clear roads. The low turnout of 155 was due to the fact that many of those who had planned to race were undoubtedly trying to shovel out after the passing of the season's first Nor'easter.
What was supposed to be a 5-miler became a 4.3-miler because of a tree which had fallen on power lines at the base of the infamous hill which runners normally encounter late in the race. As a result, the hill was eliminated from the course and the distance of the race shortened by 0.7-mile.
