Mike Keenan Stops Buchanan, Takes Calf Pasture 9-Miler
Eileen Mallesch Leads the Women, Sets Course Record
Saturday, August 10......after three straight wins by George Buchanan and Emmy Stocker, new
blood triumphed in the fourth leg of the six-race Norwalk Summer Series. Setting a fast pace
(5:36 per mile), Milford's Mike Keenan sped thru the 9-mile course in 50:28, just two minutes
above the over-all course record. Meanwhile, Westport's Eileen Mallesch ran a 7:08 pace that
brought her in first among the women with a 1:04:10, breaking the course record for women
aged 40-49. Buchanan's 2nd-place time was 52:02, followed by Henry Goitia's 53:18. The
second woman was Meg Hickey (1:05:39), followed by Sharon Lyons (1:08:48).
Two other course records were broken: men's 14-and-under, Yee-Huan Cheng (1:00:05), and
men's 70-79, Cole Fisher (1:21:27). A total of 106 runners finished the run from Norwalk's Calf
Pasture Beach, on a sunny, warm morning (high 70's), with some cool breezes.
The series will continue on Saturday, August 27 at 8 A.M. in an 11-mile run from Silvermine
School on north Norwalk's Perry Avenue.
