19th ANNUAL NORWALK (CT) SUMMER SERIES

Buchanan and Stocker Take Naramake 3-Miler
Saturday, June 29, 1996. On a cool, clear morning in Norwalk, George Buchanan today started the 19th annual
edition of the Norwalk Summer Series by winning the Naramake 3-mile run. His winning time of 15:54 extended
his string of wins at Naramake to seven, starting in 1990. Buchanan, a Stamford resident, has won the full 6-race
Summer Series six times already. Eric Karl of Cos Cob (16:56) and Alex Peter of Norwalk (17:20) were
Buchanan's closest challengers today. Greenwich's Emmy Stocker was the first female finisher, in 18:34 (11th
over-all). Stephanie Hahn of New Canaan was just 25 seconds behind Stocker, while setting a new course record
for the women's 40-49 age group. Sally Van Leeuwen, of Cos Cob, was third woman in 20:33.
Another course record was broken in the men's 14-and-under age group, where Yee-Huan Cheng of Norwalk was
first in that age group in a time of 18:07. A total of 107 runners finished the race; the series will continue on
Saturday, July 13 in a 5-mile run at Cranbury School.
