This year, Tom Buckley was the race director. Some of the duties he
performed were getting the permits for the race, acquiring and
bringing the bagels, water and Gatorade, and marking the course.
David Reik did the timing and results with the assistance of Michael
Taricani who handed out the finish cards. These people, and perhaps
others, contributed great baked goods: Kelly Burns Gallagher, Lee
and Linda Bradley, Bekkie Wright, and Cynthia Kozak Buckley. Peter
Hawley brought the Club timing device, and tables.

Frigid People’s Forest Run – January 15, 2012
-
-
What is the proper word for 55 runners who braved the 8 degree
(minus 11 windchill) icebox known as the 2012 People’s Forest
Run? Hardy? Robust? Resilient? Nuts? You pick the adjective and many
would fit the bill on this coldest day of the year, as the wooded
roads of People’s Forest delighted in the pitter patter of
frozen feet. Marc Robacynski laughed at the cold and wind on his way
to a 2 loop (17.13 mile) jaunt of 1:41:06 to lead the way, while
Amanda Hill led the iron women 2 loop gang in 2:04:48. For the
relatively wimpy one-loopers, Doug Mulcahy cruised the 8.57 mile
loop around the Farmington River in 56:49, and Katherine Bussiere
scorched the frozen pavement in 1:00:52 to lead the women.

A hardy, frozen thank you to David Reik for his high-tech timing and
Michael Taricani for his finish line assistance and wonderful
pictures, but mostly for their braving the elements for over 3 hours
and providing encouragement to warm the soul (and the feet). There
was no shortage of fuel for the cold furnace on this day, thanks to
the warm hearts of Kelly Burns Gallagher, Lee and Linda Bradley,
Bekkie Wright, and Cindy Kozak-Buckley.

HISTORY OF THE HARTFORD TRACK CLUB RIVERTON/PLEASANT VALLEY
TWO-LOOP RUN
- Men's record for two loops: John
Vitale, 1979, 1:32:08, 5:23 pace.
-
Women's record for two loops: 1990, Mary-Lynn Pastizzo, 1:50:19,

The run uses a loop that goes up one side of the Farmington River to
Riverton, and down the other to Pleasant Valley. The loop was
measured by Bill Tribou on March 11, 1980, at least that's the date
on his report. The then-new, HTC measuring wheel he used gave him a
distance of 13,787 meters, so two loops would be 17.134 miles.

1978: George Straznitskas, 1:34 (only finisher reported).

1:32:19, was second overall); Sally Sullivan, 1:59:46, 35th place.
