What a night at the Old Magoun Saloon! Tonight’s race shaped up to be a good one with club regular Jeremy Selwyn holding a small lead over the rapidly improving Tod Rasmussen for the Series Championship. Unfortunately, that race never manifested as Tod was forced to scratch but Jeremy showed why he’s a true champion, running a season’s best time even though he had the championship wrapped up. Jeremy finishes the eight race series with the following accomplishments: 1st Magoun’s Series Champion, most points in the series, and the only competitor to complete all eight races. During the post race party, (and after a couple of suds) Jeremy said he will be back to defend his title against all Series 2 challengers.
On the ladies side it was a three way battle between Deidre, Casey, and Athena. After seven races Athena held a small lead over the other two. But, like they say, “you got to be in it to win it” and Athena’s failure to show definitely cost her title. With opportunity in hand Deirdre and Casey both ran season’s best times ending the series in a mathematical tie. Due to the tiebreak rules Casey was awarded the win. During the post race party Casey confessed that it was her first ever win and walked around with the trophy for the next three hours. Seeing the trophy many of the female runners declared that Casey’s rule would be short lived. Series 2 starts next Thursday.
