Mine Falls Summer Trail Race Series - Race #12

Race Story:

Race #12 ended the Summer Trail Series with a bang as 90 runners participated in the 2010 Handicap Race.

Racers were sent off in waves based on their course PR's for this year (from slowest to fastest)

with the idea that everyone would finish around the same time. And, this year we came pretty close to just that!

Also, because of the nature of the event being that everyone is either racing to catch the slower person in front

or fighting to keep ahead of the faster person behind, we had 59 people set new personal best times!

So, on a very "fall-like" New England evening nearly 2/3rds of the field were motivated enough to run a new PR!

The 5k race winner was Deric Faria who finished in a net time of 25:33, or about 4 and a half minutes faster

than his previous best. The next fastest time was run by Harmony Driscoll who ran a 32:51 which was also about

4 1/2 minutes better than her best 2010 5k time! Congrats to both. Now you have something to aim for in 2011!

In the 5m race, last year's female handicap winner Janice Trouville out did herself by taking the overall title.

Janice's net time of 46:46 represented a 4 1/2 minute bettering of her 2010 5m Personal Best!

And, sandwiched between a couple of 5m sandbaggers was Robert Streed who also bettered his best this year

by the "magical" 4 1/2 minute time difference. Again, now you both have a new mark to hit 2011!

The 2010 Summer Trail Race Series was a phenomenal success - beyond my wildest imagination!

We were blessed with more runners, more good weather days and more fun than ever before.

Once again, thanks to all who came to run or volunteer. I hope to see you all (and more) next year!
