Leprechaun Trot
Eastham, MA, March 14, 2010
Nor'Easter Pummels Leprechaun Trotters
A hardy crew braved the late winter Nor'Easter for today's Leprechaun Trot at Nauset Regional High School.
Thankfully, the heavy rains held off but strong winds brought runners to a standstill at several points
around the course. With an optional food drive for a lower-Cape food pantry, proceeds benefited the Nauset
High athletics department and as well as participating, students marked the course, handled registration,
made the awards, and manned the sole water stop, all under the watchful eye of director Katie McCully.
Take homes included special pottery awards to the winners, shamrock-shaped chocolates, Irish pins, and
t-shirts. For the 5 mile loop, runners passed the Three Sisters, Nauset Light, and the Nauset Coast Guard
Station and were treated to magnificent views of a 10-15' surf pounding the Eastham shoreline. The two-milers
missed the surf but after an agonizingly slow crawl into the wind for the first mile, were treated to a
20-30mph tailwind for the return trip to the finish. All are looking forward to next year's clear skies
and moderate temperatures!
