Mine Falls Summer Trail Race Series - Race #12

Race Story:

Race #12 ended the Summer Trail Series with a bang as 59 runners participated in the 2009 Handicap Race.
Runners were sent off in waves based on their course PR's for this year (from slowest to fastest)
with the idea that everyone would finish around the same time. And, this year we came pretty close to just that!
Also, because of the nature of the event being that everyone is either racing to catch the slower person in front
or to keep ahead of the faster person behind (like a fox & hound), we had 26 people set new personal best times!
So, on another hot and humid New England evening nearly half the field were motivated enough to run a new PR!

The 5k race winner was Bryce Newsham who finished in a net time of 27:45, or about 2 and a half minutes faster
than his previous best. After a series of first timers, the next fastest times were run by Jeannette Senko and
Caroline Fischer. Jeannette ran 1 minute PR as did Caroline who managed to hold off most of the rest of the
5k field in a very brave rabbitting attempt for the young 7 year old!

In the 5m race, the fox never got caught. Prem Rao started in front and finished that way as he ran a 3 and
a half minute PR of 47:04. Hot on his heels was a young pup who almost made up his entire 11 minute handicap.
Benjamin Platt (age 13) came up just 11 seconds short of the kill but still managed a 3 minute PR! After Ben
was Bill Newsham who had to make up nearly 16 minutes on Prem and Janice Trouville who started with Prem
and still managed to hold back 11 hungry hounds behind her on her way to a 1 minute PR!
