Great Day at the Marlborough Main Street Mile

 

On a cool, cloudy morning on October 4th, 59 runners participated in the 6th Annual Marlborough Main Street Mile. Even with ominous weather conditions, runners were pleasantly greeted prior to the run by the outstanding volunteers of the local running club, The Highland City Striders.

 

Sonny Gamble a Marlboro resident, and previous Marlboro High School track standout crushed the course record by five seconds, running an amazing time of 4.16. Sonny now competes for the UMASS Minutemen. The previously held course record by Rich Marion was 4.21. Scott Steeves from Middleton was second and first master finishing in 4.51.

 

Alexandra Grimaldo from Marlboro, and a Marlboro High School cross country standout was the first female finisher running an outstanding time of 5.33. Ally Oram, Alexandra’s teammate at Marlboro High, holds the course record of 4.57 couldn’t run this year. Kayleigh Fay also a runner on the high school’s cross country team was the second overall female finisher in a time of 6.02.

 

The parent & child team of John and Peter Kirk from Ashland won the Family Award.

 

The race is the kick-off event for the Marlboro Heritage Festival and is graciously sponsored by the Marlborough Recreation Department, Marlborough Police Department, The Prospector East Saloon, The Highland City Striders and The Heritage Festival. The race is always held the first Sunday in October.
