How
the Scoring Works
To score
men and women evenly, we use a program called "Age Grade Percent." This
allows males and females to be scored together on an even playing field
by producing an "Age-Graded Performance Factor.". The person with the
highest percentage, meaning the one closest to the Age Standard for that
age, gender, and distance is the age-grade winner. Performance is presented
starting from the higher the percentage which is also the best performance.
This factor
is obtained by dividing a runner's time into the time standard for the
age and gender of the runner. The meaning of a performance percentage
as given by World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA)
are:
100% = Approximate
World-Record Level
Over 90% = World Class
Over 80% = National Class
Over 70% = Regional Class
Over 60% = Local Class
We then
divide runners into weight category ranges to make the competiton more
interesting. Congratulations to all who particiapted in the week's event.
