In
the summertime when the weather is fine
This
is turning out to be the best summer ever! Think of all things we don't
have to worry about. . . sun burn, drought and the high cost of air conditioning.

Neither
snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night . . At around 3:00
PM yesterday the phone calls and emails started with the common question
"is the race still on?" In the seven years we have been running
the Good Times we've only cancelled once and that was due to a 60-year
flood. In the past, when we actually had a summer, it was not uncommon
for thunderstorms to roll through the Merrimack Valley during the late
afternoon. They always seem to end before the race starts.
We had 194
fearless runners showed up for our Reverse the Course 5K. Runners were
directed to run the inner loop in the opposite directions from usual.
It is difficult to say which way is faster. Judging from the number of
course PRs set I'd have to say the distance is about the same.
The
Leaderboard
After three weeks two runners who hail from Lowell via Kenya, Titus Mutinda
and Festus Mbuva are running first and second respectively. On the female
side fourteen year Christina Pike of Nashua, NH leads master runner Linda
Young of Dracut. I guess you could say the young Pike is leading the older
Young. Our overall race winners last night were Jill Trotter (19:32) of
Westford and Jim St. Pierre (15:38) of Dracut.
Photographs
and Memories
Once again we were lucky to have in attendance photographer extraordinaire
Jim Rhoades. He took some great finish line photographs of just about
everyone. Check out Jim's photos by clicking

Next Up
Next week, July 14, is our Coaster Toss 5K. Prior to the race each entrant
will be given a bar coaster with their bib number on it. At the one mile
mark there will be a number of buckets slightly off course. The object
is to land your coaster in one of the buckets. At the award ceremony coasters
will be pulled (raffle style) from each bucket to win fabulous prizes.
BTW you are not allowed to stop and toss you must keep moving. So I hope
you can join us. And as always, we can't promise you'll run a fast
time, but we guarantee you'll have a Good Time at the Good Times Series.
