Matty's Run 2009 Summary

The 2009 Matty's Run was held Friday evening July 17th 2009 under cloudy skies, but it did stop the 73 runners in the 5K event or the 27 runners who competed in the 1 mile race/walk. Both courses were wet from an early evening shower and a persistent drizzle that continued throughout the evening.

The 5K event was won by Nick FOgel with a time of 19:54 and Mackenzie Hitchcock took the Female division with a time of 23:56. Mackenzie was 9th overall. In the 1 Mile event Ryan Jacoby completed the loop in 5:57 to lead all males and Shea Hassett kept it close to finish second overall and first in the Female division with a time of 6:07.

The very challenging 5K course crosses fields, hills and streams on the outskirts of the Berkshire Community College campus that were extremely soggy from the wet summer in the Berkshires. Several of the daring runners chose to run right through the middle of the puddles and streams while the other more cautious runners carefully navigated the same water hazards. All finished wet and a bit on the muddy side, but it seemed like they had fun.
