Killing
Me Softly with your shoes
A
slice of humble pie now and again is good for the sole. However 116 slices
may be a bit much to take.

Last night
was our last annual Kill Dave 5K. In this race the idea is to finish in
front of me after the results are age and gender graded. To my chagrin
a very large number of runners did just that. However for me it's a glorious
site seeing so many runners in Lowell on a Tuesday evening. So to everyone
who killed me last night you have my utmost respect and congratulations.
Hmmm. . . on second thought, maybe a rematch is in order.
What's
going on in Dracut?
For twenty-five years I was a Dracuteer. During that time I expended an
enormous amount of energy trying to make Dracut a town of runners. In
fact the first two years of the Good Times Series was held in Dracut;
although I called it the Lakeview Series back then. I coached track and
cross-county at the high school, ran youth clinics, organized numerous
races in town and brought in all my stud running training buddies for
runs. Nothing seemed to work. Now I look at last night's results and our
overall female winner Lauren Lesniak is from Dracut (although she was
on my XC team), our overall female series leader Linda Young is from Dracut,
out top three female masters (Mary Casey, Karen Gondine and Linda McCarthy)
are from Dracut. Apparently all Dracut needed was for me to move out.
Speaking
of stud training buddies, it was great to see Phil Riley take top place
in the age and gender grading results. Phil was a stud 25 years ago and
is still one today. Besides coaching cross country at Stoneham High School,
Phil has the distinction of being on seven consecutive Boston Marathon
masters' championship teams with the Greater Lowell Road Runners.
On
the Competitive Side
Titus Mutinda and Linda Young still sit on top of our leaderboard. Titus
is enjoying a comfortable lead and can probably win it all next week with
a brisk jog which would be about 16:30 for him. Linda on the other hand
still has her work cut out since she hold a slight 68 point lead over
Christiana Pike. The finish should be interesting.

Next Up
Next week (Aug 18) it's our Last Call 5K. This is the final Good Times
Series race for 2009. We will be awarding our series and division winner
plaques and our World famous golden mylies. It would be great to see everyone
who has run in the series this year attend. And
as always, we can't promise you'll run a fast time, but we guarantee
you'll have a Good Time at the Good Times Series.
