The snow gods granted us a great day in Merrimack for the 1st Annual
Horse Hill 6K Snowshoe Race & 4K Snowshoe Fitness Walk. A cool, but
wind-free day greeted the snowshoers at the Horse Hill Nature Preserve
for their winding, hilly jaunt through backyard.
Despite being planned just 5 weeks earlier, we almost met our goal of
25 entrants, coming up less than a half dozen short. The 20 entrants
were unanimous in the beauty and challenge of the course as they snow-
shoed up and over both Horse Hill and Blodgett Hill. One even commented
that the course was marked too well (much to the chagrin of the unknown
vandal who took one of the course markers the night prior to the race,
requiring a last minute scramble to get a replacement out to the farthest
point on the course).
Acidotic Racing's Geoff Cunningham ventured south to take the title and
set the course record by shoeing away from the field to win in 26:45.
Trail Troll Dave Hannon and local shoer and co-course architect Steve
Wolfe rounded out the top three.
Terry Beauchamp took home the gold for the ladies in 42:38, with Tracie
Paine and Eileen Dunn following a minute and a half behind her.
Doris Chow was first to finish the 4K Fitness Snowshoe Walk, with 12
year old Ben Bacher taking the men's title. 66 year young Jane Leveqsue
was close behind --- even after running the 5K Freeze Your Buns several
hours earlier in Nashua.
Next up on the 3C Race Productions schedule is a double header in late
March - the Nashua PAL 3K & 5K Races in Nashua on the March 29th and the
Luv2Run Boston 5K #1 on March 30th. Hope to see you there...
