Run the new route...everybody's doing it!!

Change is good. So say tonight's runners. Our new route made it's Monday night debut this evening and was well received. So it looks like we will stick with it. 5KM in length with one gradual incline in mile one into a sharp short downhill and flat as a pancake the rest of the way. Some of the obstacles along the way that make running in the city what it is include a narrow one car width tunnel, a highway offramp, a rotary ,oops "Roundabout", traffic, and general busyness that you'll find on a summer evening in the city.

Some of the highlights along the route are a combo of old and new Worcester including Water and Green Streets in the Canal District, home to many restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and Worcester Magazine World Headquarters. The new Worcester Fire Station being built behind the Kenmore Diner on the site of the Worcester Cold Storage building where six firefighters tragically lost their lives on Dec 3 1999 is also on the route. Shrewsbury Street, also known as restaurant row is the mid section of the run leading into the new Washington Sq Roundabout in front of Union Station. From there you pass by the Korean War Memorial and along what will eventually become part of City Square, a transformation and rebirth of the downtown area and of course our finish in Kelley Square.

Come down and check out the new route, the post race goodies, and have a cold beer every Monday at 6:30 PM.
