Our 2007 season ended where it started - Portland, Maine --- with a deja vu
experience to top them all. 3 days before our first event of 2007 in Portland,
a major late season snowstorm closed the Back Cove Trail and we scrambled to
come up with a new course on short notice.
Just this past Tuesday at 3:00 PM we received an email from Portland Parks &
Recreation Department that we had to move our final event of 2007, from the
Back Cove Trail to Deering Oaks Park as they has started repairing the damage
from the above-mentioned snowstorm just the day before.
Given Deering Oaks Park small size, we feared we would be looking at a 4-lapper,
around the park, but by being a little creative we created a 2-lapper --- a true
cross country course that weaved in and out, over and under (using a footbridge
with paths underneath) that the runners loved --- even with the temperatures in
the mid-20's and winds gusting to 30 and 40 miles per hour during the race.
Jeff Fisher pulled away from the pack in the first quarter mile, and even passed
the lead cyclist for a few yards, to take the victory in 20:12. Meanwhile Kathleen
Muson had a battle on her hands for most of the race before pulling away from
Jessica Stevenson for the checkered flag in 21:47
The 2007 3CRP race season is over, but the break won't last very long as the 30th
Annual Peanut Butter Chip Chase starts of our 2008 season on January 1st in scenic
Temple, NH. The freshly baked (while you run) cookies will be waiting for you...
