Is Temptation
the irresistible force?
Maybe
we should change the name of the "Good Times Series" to the "Fun
Times Series" because from the smiles on everyone's face that's exactly
what they were having last night. Our theme for week number five of the series
was "temptation" and we did our best to do just that!
This is how it worked. Along
our beautiful Good Times course we setup two temptation stations. Each station
was designed to tempt runners with nifty prizes or cash, however as you can
expect there was a price to pay for this indulgence.
Station one, located at
mile one, had 10 boxes each containing merchandize. However only one box contained
the Grand Prix of a $25 gift card to Whirlaway Sports of Methuen, a $25 Best
Buy gift card, a one year subscription to New England Runner and other items
valued at $100. The other boxes contained merchandize valued under $25. Runners
who decided to take a box had to carry it the remaining 2-miles. Of course each
box was just large enough to make it very awkward to carry.
Station two, located at
mile two, required runners to leave the course and run down a rugged path to
the river where Tom Hildreth greeted them. Tom had 25 envelopes filled with
money. Most of the envelopes contained bills of small domination except for
one envelope that has a check for $100. The trip to the river and back added
at least 30-seconds to your overall finishing time.
There was plenty at risk
for indulging in a temptation. There was the risk of losing points in the overall
standings, the risk of not winning a Mylie for setting a course PR and the risk
of forfeiting your chance of winning an age group award. In the end it seemed
that everybody won. The runner's vying for series' points avoided the temptation,
runners trying to set course PRs were successful (we awarded 32 Mylies) and
runners who usually don't win age group awards walked away with a prize. More
importantly everyone who participated left with good memories of a very special
event.

one of the all-time greats of the sport by updating his patented handicap race
with today's technology. You will also have a chance to run on our lightning
fast course, participate in a fun competition, have a chance of winning something
at our cool raffle and experience our great after race party. And as always
…"We can't promise you will run a fast time, but we do guarantee
you will have a Good Time!"
