Happens at Good Times
What
is it about t-shirts? We seem to have a love hate relationship with them. We
hate the fact that our drawers are overflowing with them, yet we hold on to
certain shirts sometimes for decades. Go figure?
Do you still have a shirt
from your first road race? I would bet most runners do. Some runners have their
favorite shirts turned into a quilt while I've seen others who have had them
framed. I've often wonder what race was first to give t-shirts to its entrants.
If anyone out there knows, please email me at dave@coolrunning.com. I would
love to know history of this ritual.
Last night the Good Times
honored this tradition with our Classic T-Shirt night. There was an amazing
array of shirts on display. We had a homemade shirt, shirts from far away races
(furthest was Russia), antique shirts (older than 25 years), colorful shirts
and shirts representing races that have long disappeared into the running landscape.

Good Times
Run at the Good Times
It was a perfect evening for running a quick time as was evident
by the 52 runners awarded Mylies for setting course PRs. This wasn't our highest
total of PRs set in one evening, that record is fifty-five, however it was our
highest percentage ever. An amazing 38-percent of the field set course PRs.
Leading the way for the
seventh consecutive week was Benjamin Ndaya of Lowell. Benjamin set a course
PR with an outstanding time of 15:10. He was followed by Jim St. Pierre (15:33)
of Dracut and Mark Mayall (16:02) of Maynard. Both Jim and Mark also set course
PRs.
On the women's side, Linda
Quimby (20:43) of Middleton continued her march to the overall championship
with a second place finish and course PR. Leading the way for the women for
the second consecutive week was Framingham's Camille Murphy (19:43). Methuen's
Christie Fox (20:51) rounded out the top three.
While we are on the topic
of PRs, next week is our Raise the Bar and Run a PR 5K. In addition to awarding
Mylies for setting all-time course PRs, we will also be presenting awards for
setting a series PR (last 7 weeks). I hope you can join us for this fun filled
evening.
Good Times
Turns 100
Finally in two weeks we will be having our Last Call 5K. This
race is special for two reasons. First it is our final Good Times 5K for 2007
as we say so long to summertime and hello to fall. Fittingly it will also be
our 100th Good Times Series Race. I hope you can join us for our 100th celebration
run. And, as always, "We can't promise you will run a fast time, but
we do guarantee you will have a Good Time!."
