This race, part of the Hartford Track Club Winter Series, honors a beloved
HTC member, Joe Vailonis, who, in the 1970s, was a tough competitor in the 60+ division, 
and a great encourager of other runners.

This year's race was held in a steady, cold rain.  Bill Katz was the race director.
I, David Reik, was his technical assistant.  Jeff Weatherhead brought the invaluable
canopy.  John Lloyd kept the finish line running smoothly.  The Hawley brothers, 
Tim and Peter, supplied the timing device, and the course signage.
