Great Day at the Marlborough Main Street
Mile
On a cool, drizzly morning on Octrober
1st, 48 runners participated in the 3rd Annual
Marlborough Main Street Mile. Even in the rain, runners were pleasantly greeted
prior to the run by the Marlborough
High School’s A Cappella
Group’s rendition of our National Anthem.
Rich Marion (course record holder from 2004) from Templeton led
from the beginning and missed his record by just three seconds running an
amazing time of 4.24. Adam Parslow from Clinton and
Bill LaFreniere (originally a Marlboro High and
Northeastern football standout) rounded out our top three male finishers.
Rebecca Connelly from Wilmington
broke the female course record in an astonishing time of 5.10. Claire
Szczerbinski (previous record holder of 5.35) from Hudson and Caitlin Piper
(standout Westborough High athlete) from Westborough rounded out the top three
female finishers.
Mike Bryant and Lynn Hanko were
the first male and female finishers from Marlborough.
The parent & child team of James and Cameran
Piper from Westborough won the Family Award.
The race is the kick-off event of the Horatio Alger’s Fair and is graciously sponsored by the Marlborough
Recreation Department, Marlborough Police Department, The Prospector East
Saloon, Personal Physical Therapy, The Highland City Striders and The Horatio Algers Fair. The race is always held the first Sunday in
October.
