Beth Sommers (31, Louisville) and Brandon Jessop (27, Cincinnati) earned the top honors last 
Sunday, April 23 in the inaugural race of the 2006 Scramble® Series at Otter Creek, Kentucky.  
Local competitor, Sommers blazed past the competition -- at 54 minutes, she was the sole female 
to complete the race in less than one hour.  Following her was another Louisville local, Jennifer 
Zehnder (36).  In a time of 43 minutes, Jessop had a solid 5 minute lead at the finish line from 
the second place winner, Scott Lajoie (35, Louisville) who won the male age group of 30-39.  

The XTERRA Scramble® Otter Creek definitely lived up to it’s promise of being “Dirty, Dusty, 
Muddy and Gutsy”!  With the sun shining bright and the ground blanketed in sticky mud, 75 plus 
athletes conquered the course.  The contrast of vivid white smiles and bodies drenched brown in 
mud is a typical picture at an XTERRA Scramble event.  Some athletes embellished the theme and 
engaged in an old fashioned slip-and-slide in the mud as they crossed the finish line.
