6th Annual Uphill Snowshoe Challenge at Mad River Glen Results

Saturday, January 17, 2004 dawned sunny and breezy setting a beautiful day
for the 6th Annual Uphill Snowshoe Challenge at Mad River Glen. Thankfully, the
temperatures eased into the teens, which seemed mild after the sub-zero days of
this week. The race course was firm and both the men and the women set blazing
speeds, with men's winner Richard Bolt of Manchester, NH setting a new course
record at 33 minutes and 16 seconds! Perennial women's favorite, Angie
Defillipi, of Colchester, VT, took first place again this year with a time of 
43 minutes 48 seconds, a bit shy of the women's record that she set last year.
The course climbs a grueling 2000 vertical feet and clocks in at about four
miles, using the Lower and Upper Antelope ski trails at Mad River Glen. The
race, sponsored by Tubbs Snowshoes, is one of three special events that the
Naturalist Program at Mad River Glen holds each year. For more information or a
