Runners participated in one of three races; the one mile run/walk, the five kilometer, or the ten kilometer race. One runner participated in both the ten kilometer, and the one mile with his son.\par Missy too Prissy Possum participated in the five kilometer race as she did last year. Missy again slept through most of it, as she was chauffered by her owner, Kathy Saunders. Missy was the youngest entrant in the races, but the youngest human runner was Seth Osborne at just three years and two months old. Seth competed in the one mile race, and completed it on his own.\par Runners came from as far away as Utah and Pennsylvania to compete in the Possum Trot. A great many local runners also competed, including Jim Eitel, a well known runner from Pritchett. A small contingent of entrants came from the Houston Area to run as the Possum Trot is part of the Texas 10 K Challenge series.\par All runners participating received a Possum Trot T-shirt, while the top three finishers in the five and ten kilometer races received gold, silver, or bronze medals. Runners in the one mile also received medals.\par The Possum Trot is held in conjunction with the Rhonesboro Possum Festival, and is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Mother Theresa Council of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Gilmer. The money raised from the event is used by the Council for charitable works. Last year the Council was able to provide the Possum Trot scholarship to a graduating senior from Harmony School. It is hoped that the scholarship will be able to be awarded annually.\par The Knights of Columbus had a great time and we want to extend our thanks to the walkers and runners, the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department, Ham Radio operators, Upshur County Sheriff Department, our wonderful sponsors and volunteers for your support. Without you this event would not be possible. Thanks!!!!\par \pard\qc\cf0\b0\f1\fs20\par }
