On a picture perfect day in Hopkinton, over 500 people turned out for the 1st Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K and Family Fun Day. The event, named in memory of the mother of Mike Timlin of the Boston Red Sox, rasied over $50,000 for The Angel Fund, a non-profit charity benefiting ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) research at MGH. Timlin threw out the first pitch to start the race, which was run over a slightly rolling course. Andy Keith won the men's division in 16:06; the women's division was won by Shelly Kenyon in a time of 19:43. The event, which was organized by the 1-year-old Hopkinton Running Club and sponsored by the Red Sox, featured a great post-race party with lots of children's activities, a D.J. pumping out tunes, delicious food, and several raffles. It is sure to become a popular early summer event on the running calendar!
