70 Plus at Coffee O Summer Scorcher
by FTC
It was another summer scorcher this week at the Coffee O. The weather
didnıt scare many away, as over 70 runners showed up. Bill Solimine and Cam
Stracher gapped the pack early and ran neck and neck until the last mile.
Solimine came across the line first as he crossed the line in 28:05 for the
third time this year. Mr. Stacher followed just 17 seconds later. A pack
of four runners crossed next almost three minutes later.
It was a very fast womenıs field this week. Marjorie Wainwright dashed
home in 33 minutes flat, one of the top womenıs times of the year. Nancy
Correia followed half a minute later. Lynn Holmgren edged Wendy Stafford
for third by just a second, with Nanci Cahalane taking fifth just 20 seconds
later.
Tracy Jillson ran this week after a Coffee O absence of almost five
years. Mr. Jillson once scorched the course in 26:12 many years ago.
George Conefrey who could run sub 25 in his prime, settled for 50 minutes
this week. Jeanne Cerulle had a Coffee O personal best despite the heat.
Bob Richard weathered the heat with a surprisingly fast time as well.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile race from Town Hall Square in
Falmouth. It starts at 5:30 every Friday night and all are welcome to
participate. There is no entry fee for this self timed event.
