Coffee-O-Five
Falmouth, MA, October 31, 2003
Costume Fest at Halloween O Five
by by Ken Gartner
Twenty runners and half a dozen walkers donned reflective vests and
some donned costumes for the Halloween edition of the Coffee O Five. Andrew
Hassey stormed through the night and won his first ever Coffee O Five by a
good three minutes. Mr. Hassey is a member of the Falmouth High
cross-country team. Mike Casso a Falmouth High harrier of long ago nabbed
second with his best ever Coffee O finish. Wendy Stafford showed no ill
effects from her fine finish at last weekıs Cape Cod Marathon. She was the
first woman with a time of just over 37 minutes. Bob Richards must run
faster in the dark, as he surprised himself with a personal best time of
39:05.
Five runners donned costumes this week while the other 15 dressed up as
distance runners. In the costumed division Candy Boy Bob was the fastest as
he edged Old Man Sweeney by a couple of minutes. Shanghai Sharon loped home
just ahead of some woman in a cat suit. Queen Joanne cracked 49 minutes
with her crown in tow. In a unanimous decision by the judge, Old Man Sweeney
won the best costume award.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4-mile walk that is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is
no entry fee for this self timed event and all runners and walkers are
welcome. Reflective running vests are required through the winter.
