Coffee-O-Five

Fast Times on Bright Night at Coffee O
by by Ken Gartner
What a night for a run! The moon was so bright over Vineyard Sound it
was almost like running down Surf Drive in daylight. Twenty-seven runners
and half a dozen walkers gathered in Town Hall Square. Usually the times
tail off in the winter as it is hard to run fast in the dark, but three
runners turned in personal best times this week, and many others had very
good runs.
It is too bad for Bob Richards that they donıt hold normal road races
in the dark, as he seems to be a night person. Mr. Richards chopped a full
30 seconds off his personal best five mile time which he set just last week.
Sharon Grace came bounding down Walker Street with her flashlight in hand
and also took a full half-minute off her personal best five-mile time. She
finished in just a shade over 37 minutes. Kathie Fallonıs time of 42:18 was
her personal best. Mike Casso chopped two full minutes off his time of last
week en route to a sixth place finish in 34:14. Wendy Stafford was the
first woman as she finished with one of her best five-mile times. She
finished in just under 35 minutes.
Don ³Halfway² Frederickson of Lincoln, Rhode Island had such a good
time at last weekıs Falmouth in the Fall Road Race, that he returned a week
later to try the Coffee O Five. He finished in a tie for first in just over
31 minutes. Brian Nelson and Jeff List followed in succession. Kris Tholke
was third for the women in just under 42 minutes. Courtney DiPaolo made her
way through the course without getting lost in her Coffee O Five debut and
cracked the top five.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile walk that is
held every Friday night at 5:30 in Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is
no entry fee and all runners and walkers are welcome to participate.
