Coffee-O-Five
Falmouth, MA, November 14, 2003
Wind Blown Night For Coffee O Fivers
by by Ken Gartner
It was a tough night for a run and only 17 runners and three brave
walkers showed up for this weekıs Coffee O Five. There was a gale force
headwind for the first half of the run that caused the runners to go through
the first two miles in dismally slow times. The last two miles however,
were run with a gale force tailwind, which almost evened things out.
Jim Tietje may have actually run a personal best time but no one is
really sure as his watch got blown off in the midst of the race. After many
calculations and replay reviews it was determined he came very close to his
personal best time, but how close no one knows. Mr. Tietje came in fourth,
just behind a late starting Matt Plant. Jeff List copped second with one of
his best runs of the season. Chris Risko rounded out the top five with one
of his best Coffee O finishes.
Wendy Stafford was the first woman as she blew into Town Hall Square
alongside Pete Murphy and Jack Carroll in just under 38 minutes. The
dynamic duo of Sharon Grace and Kathie Fallon came trotting down Walker
Street in a tie for second. Carolyn Bird rounded out the womenıs field.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile road race and 2.4 mile walk
that is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There is no entry fee and all runners and walkers are invited to
participate. Reflective running gear of some type is required through the
winter. Next up on the local running scene is the annual Chase the Turkey
run through Beebe Woods on Thanksgiving morning. The race starts and
finishes at Falmouth Academy.
