Coffee O Course Record Barely Survives

Kevin Gray of Walpole was in town this weekend and he took a shot at the Coffee O Five course record. The former course record holder went through three miles in 14:56, which was well under course record pace, but then tired in the homestretch. His time of 25:45 was just 13 seconds off of Tom Doody¹s course record, which was set about three years ago. Mr. Gray¹s time was the second fastest time ever run on the course. He vowed to come back in a few weeks with some of his training partners to take another shot at the record and a chance to win the nonexistent course record prize. Leonard Christo nipped Brandon Dugan by just a second with a time of 31:58 to take third place. Dave Steube took fifth with a time of 32:59. Fresh off of second and third place finishes in last week¹s Johnny Kelley 10 Mile Road Race, Lynn Holmgren and Penny Christo took first and second in this week¹s Coffee-O-Five. Ms. Holmgren¹s time of 33:07 was the fastest women¹s time run on the course this year. Ms. Christo finished exactly one minute later. Kris Tholke edged Sabine Mecking for third. The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile road race and 2.4-mile walk, which is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners and walkers are welcome to participate. Coffee Obsession generously supplies post race water to the thirsty runners.
